We are blessed with hundreds of Christian charities across the US. Many of them accept cars as donations. A used car definitely counts toward tithing, so if you're falling behind on that a bit, or don't have the cash for catch up, getting rid of an old car you don't need anymore is an excellent way to know you're 100% square on the tithing front.



Christian charities, like all other charities that accept cars, will take some donated cars will go to the old used car auctions, so you will probably get less than a $500 donation, but many others will either use your donated car themselves, or give them directly to a needy family.

If you really want to make a difference in the Christian community, or the wider community, giving a needy family a usable, if somewhat beaten up car can make a huge difference to them. It may make it possible for the parents to get to a job in much less time than taking public transportation, and it can also make it possible for them to find second job or even a third job between the two parents.

Having a car also makes it possible for children to more easily be brought to friends homes, or to be brought over to family members who can more easily look after them at their houses. This savings on childcare can change the equation of whether or not getting a job is better than staying home and just collecting unemployment. "God helps those who help themselves," and while that's definitely true, giving a needy family access to a car hugely improves their ability to help themselves.

Here are a few of the major Christian charities that accept cars. Many also accept boats, RVs and other vehicles. Please note that this is just the shortest list of Christian charities that accept cars.

Habitat for Humanity

This international ecumenical Christian organization accepts cars, RVs, boats, airplanes and even farm and construction equipment, even if its not running. The only thing that would cause Habitat to turn down your donation is if the cost of towing and processing the vehicle exceed what Habitat can get for it at auction. Bethany Christian Services

This national adoption organization has nearly 80 offices across the US. Call 877-999-8322 and they will pick up your car within a week and send you all your tax deduction paperwork within eight weeks. Bethany is the largest adoption agency in the US, not just placing infants in homes but also helping women with unplanned pregnancies, orphans, and foster care children.

Christ Cars

Based in San Antonio, Texas, Christ Cars accepts not just cars but real estate, construction equipment and more. Most of their funds go toward helping their local "Youth for Christ" program. Your car will be auctioned, not given directly to someone, and the costs and profits derived from the sale will be split between Christ Cars and SAYFC, the Scottish Association of Young Farmers Clubs.
