If you do even a little bit of research about donating a car, you'll probably come across this major car donation house.
Donate a Car 2 Charity operates across the US, so no matter where you live they can arrange to have a tow truck come by and pick up your car. They accept most junk cars, aka cars that do not run anymore, and they will take almost any other kind of vehicle. To be sure if your vehicle will be accepted, you should complete their online car donation form. In the vast majority of cases a car will be accepted unless its value is so low that Donate a Car 2 Charity can not expect to recoop the costs of towing and processing the car from what they expect to get for it at auction.
Their main office is in Escondido, California. They are not listed on CharityNavigator.org, and they are an accredited member of the Better Business Bureau. That does not mean there are any problems here, in fact, not finding red flags is sometimes the best you can hope for. No one's complained about them, and they could probably get themselves more visibility by getting listed on the major sites people use to check out businesses and charities.
Towing is free and there are no hidden costs. When you complete the form you will be given a donation reference number that will allow you to receive updates online or by the phone.
The website has a map that is easy to use. You can choose the state that you are interested in either by clicking the state on the map or an alphabetical list of states.
This will then bring you to the information that you need about that state that includes:
- Where they will pick up car donations
- IRS tax deduction information
- Paperwork that you need
- A title is required unless it is a vehicle manufactured before 1975, an ATV, snowmobile or boat.
If you have lost the title, you can apply for one through your local Department of Motor Vehicles. There will be a fee and time involved to receive the new title.
- Release of liability
- You must transfer the signed title remove license plates. If you have any questions about releasing liability, call your State's Department of Motor Vehicles.
All proceeds of your donation will go to Activated Ministries. Activated Ministries is a 501 c 3 non-profit organization that is dedicated to sharing God's word and the distribution of Christian outreach materials. They support missionary efforts across the globe, but also approach their work with an unusual idea: that people materially well-off can be spiritually undernourished, too. The Activated Ministies mission statement talks of helping people who have lost connection to God through the familiar disapointments in life: loss of loved ones, anxiety about the state of the world, disconnection from their communities.
