Local is better. Even though Austin is #15 in the United States if you are counting greatest by per capita, I know of a few friends in Austin who would loudly declare Bat City as the best. Either way, Austin has vibrant culture and great people, and you can help the ones down on their luck by donating your car to the Austin charities listed on this page.
I have selected these charities because they are all 501(c)(3) rated by the IRS, so your donation to them is tax deductible. They are also all rated by the charity review site Charity Navigator with three or four star reviews. Those ratings mean they are exceptional, or at best very well run charites that effectively serve the causes they were launched to help, and they are also fiscally responsible. You can trust your car is going to people who will make the most of it.
Austin Habitat for Humanity, Inc.
310 Comal, Suite 100 Austin, Texas 78702
512.472.8788
http://www.austinhabitat.org/donate/other.php
Habitat for Humanity helps people build and repair their own homes. Recipients are expected to pick up a shovel and work alongside of volunteers, and they do. The Austin chapter of Habitat for Humanity will be happy to help you set up a free pickup and/or twoing of your car, truck, boat or other vehicle for their national Cars for Homes Program. Your car will be sold at auction, so you won't get the maximum possible tax deduction for your donation, but you will be giving to an internationally recognized and respected organization, and you'll know your car donation and all the associated paperwork is being handled by pros.

3 star rated charities (according to Charity Navigator)
Bat Conservation International
P.O. Box 162603, Austin, TX 78716
877-BATS-123
http://www.batcon.org/index.php/support-bci/types-of-donations.html
Yep, the Bat City has an international bat reseearch and conservation program. And Bat Conservation International has an auto donation program, but they have outsourced it to the car donation processor Charitable Auto Resources, Inc. This proobably means your car will be sold at auction, so you will get a bit less of a tax break, but it does mean you'll get prompt service, free towing and the peace of mind of knowing that pros are handling the whole process for you. And you'll be helping the bats, whic do much more for us than most people realize.
