Donation Charities Center (http://www.donateacar.com)

This car donation supersite has been responsible for 1 million vehicle (cars and trucks) donations that have supported hundreds of non-profits since 1992. The center is equipped to receive trailers, boats, trucks, RV's, and some other recreational equipment such as snowmobiles or jet skis.

The Donation Charities Center accepts most vehicles even if they are not running (so your "junk car" will have a good chance at being accepted here). Whether the car will be accepted is decided when the donation form is submitted.

You can get their form online or you can call to request the donation form. Local and national charities that include the American Red Cross, United Way, Humane Society, SPCA, Boy Scouts of America, the USO and many more. Check out the list by state, cause or national chapter http://www.donateacar.com/charities.php

Towing companies that are associated with Donation Charities Center are professionally licensed, bonded and insured. The Center is able to pick up in all 50 states in the continental U.S. and Hawaii. A local towing company will be notified and then make arrangements for pick up of the vehicle.

The title and keys will be picked up when the towing company comes to pick up the vehicle. Be sure to sign over the title to the Center, cancel your registration and insurance. This is very important so that you do not end up with a driving record for traffic violations that you did not incur.

You must sign the back of the title in order to turn it over to the organization that you are donating the vehicle. If you have lost the title, you can request a new one. Get in touch with your Department of Motor Vehicles. The DMV will process your request in a few weeks and there will be a charge for the new title. Do not cancel your liability insurance until you've cancelled your registration. Have the towing company remove your license plates so that you can keep them in your possession.

IRS and Tax Deduction

The IRS allows a tax deduction of the value of your vehicle up to $500 or if the vehicle is sold at auction for more than $500. Donation Charities Center will mail the IRS tax form 1098-C with the value. To find out what your car is worth visit the Kelly Blue Book website. Most cars will be sold at auction.

Some charities will fix up the vehicle and given to a person of need. They may require the recipient of the car to pay a small fee. This will be based on according to the client's ability to pay and the worth of the car. Some non-profits will require that the client do service work for a period of time to pay off the car. The regulations would be different than an outright donation. You can find the information you need in A Donors Guide to Car Donations.

Complimentary Travel Certificate

This web site offers a travel certificate as an incentive. After your vehicle has been picked up you can call to receive your donation ID number or submit a request online http://www.donateacar.com/certificate.php
